waterfall

September 26, 2006

ok I don´t have much time.

Yesterday I decided to hike up the river because I heard there was a waterfall. So I was hiking and I went through this little path through the bushes and trees and SAW A FREAKINNG 4 FOOT LONG SNAKE SLITHERING AWAY!!. It wasn´t very girthy, but still, I was freaking scared. But it was gone, then I continued.

So I got to the the waterfall, which was maybe 3 kilometers from my house. It was really beautiful, I just sat on a rock and watched it for a while. I don´t really feel like describing the area, I´ll take pictures later. So anyways after about half an hour I went back.

I got to the little “shortcut” thing where I saw the snake and thought “it´s gone, I can go through here again”.

WRONG!!!

I was walking when I looked up and saw it waiting like 3 feet in front of me with it´s head raised. OMG it was the scariest thing I´ve seen in a really REALLY long time. I freaking booked it in the other direction.

Then it sucked because every little twig and branch I saw started looking like a freaking snake.

Man but seriously I haven´t been that scared since like kindergarten when I saw “When Animals Attack” on tv.

Oh one other thing, tomorrow I´m going to the Copan Ruins for 4 days for our “adjustment orientation” with all the afs kids, so I hope that´ll be fun.

Jacked

September 24, 2006

that´s right, I got jacked. 60 bucks. from inside my room. gone.

But that was a couple days ago. I´m over it.

Oh in brighter news I had my first dream in spanish. Well, parts were in spanish. Ehh..actually I only think one part was in spanish. But STILL…

I was with the Lázaros and Jimy said something in spanish (Something about going to a night club and the bouncer was like “are you a man or a kid?”….I think…) and his mom was like “¿Lo entendiste?” and I was like “¡Si!” and…

that´s all I remember.

Ok so it was kind of weak sauce…but still, it´s better than nothing.

Una Historieta de Circunferencia

September 19, 2006

So I something really cool happened the other day. Two of my freinds from school invited me to this “concert” that their church was putting on in the park, which is right down the street. It was like a combination event thing with their church (here in Omoa) and two other churches (one from Puerto Cortez, one from Tegucigalpa). So I went. It was pretty much just an outdoor church service thing, but it was funny becuase right when it started, it began to rain. Everyone started praying and stuff and when it died down a bit, they continued.

But anyways, the important part of the story. When I first got there, I heard this awesome drummer playing on the set. He was really legit, I was really impressed. Well, fast forward til about the middle of the “concert”. I was standing watching the stage, and to the side, I saw these guys motioning someone. Turns out it was me.

Back up a bit…I went to these guys´ church before because my freinds said they were going to practice music. Well, they all really suck, but there was one guy there that was helping them who spoke a little english.

Back to the story. He was over there calling me. I went over and he introduced me to the drummer, and was all like ” this guy plays drums too” (referring to me). After the whole shindig, the drummer guy (his name´s Mario) was all like “teach me something”. I was surprised because this guy was really good and he hadn´t even heard me play, but I jammed a little on the set. He said that he had a book about snare drum but he can´t read music, and I was all like “i can read music”.

Ok I skipped some details and stuff, but the point of this story is I´m probably gonna hang out with this guy who´s a really good drummer. He lives in Puerto Cortez (I don´t think I mentioned that before)

Oh and that hidden beach thing I wrote about before, I got kicked out. It´s private…haha. But I did take pictures, so it´s all good.

SO that´s all for now. Peace

Man this computer´s slow

September 14, 2006

So I was trying to access gmail for like 10 minutes before I gave up, and then it literally took 20 minutes to fully load the blog…well here we go

Well, last saturday was Dia Del Niño (kid´s day, a holiday celebrated in latin america), and me and my class went to a nearby town called chivana. We went to the school there and brought piñatas and candy and stuff, because the kids there are too poor to celebrate it. It was really fun, even though we had to hike like 3 kilometers uphill to get there. I didn´t bring my camera, but I wish I did. It was really great, everyone had a real good time and the kids loved it.

So Maria, one of the girls that helps out at the house, isn´t going to work there anymore. It sucks, she´s my homie! She was the one who like helped me out at school and stuff (we´re in the same class) when I was still trying to get my bearings. She´s still going to go to school, but yea, she isn´t going to work at the house anymore. Now I´m gonna have to walk to school alone!!

UMMM….. oh yea

Sometimes this kids really piss me off (Gordo and Karol). They get in these hyper crazy moods and won´t stop messing with you and I´ve seriously wanted to hit them. I´ve never lived with little kids before!!!! But it´s a good thing overall, a new experience. I just hope I can stay really patient.

Connie´s birthday is on sunday I think. We´re gonna have a party or something.

That reminds me, on Dia del Niño, Alberto´s two sisters (Aura and Javier´s other two girls) who live in San Pedro Sula came to visit. The older sister brought her son and her son´s friend. They´re really cool (the sisters). One´s 20 and the other´s in her late 20´s I think (she´s the one with the kid).

The kid though…he´s got to be the most spoiled kid I´ve seen in a long time. He made Gordo and Karol seem like angels times 100. So yea, I don´t like him (he was like…5) but his friend was cool. And they´re all coming for Connie´s birthday.

Oh, one last thing…I found this awesome little “hidden” beach. It´s about 1 kilometer down the road, and it´s really cool. You go off the road down this little hill, and it´s there  in the middle of two houses that are far apart. There´s a sign that says “Parke” something (I can´t remember what), so I think it´s fine to be there. But yea, it´s soooo pretty. I just go there and sit under this little shade thing and stare at the clouds and try to take it all in. Don´t worry, I´ll take pictures.

So yea, that´s all for now. I hope everything´s well in the states.

Yes, palabra means word in español

September 4, 2006

So uhhm, I got bored and decided to walk to 100 steps to the internet cafe. (it´s seriously that close..100 steps no joke)

Just some thing´s that I forgot to say earlier…

If you wanna picture Aura (my ¨mom¨) think of that bad octopus lady in the little mermaid…seriously.

and Javier (the brother) kind of looks like JC (a kid that went to PHS my freshman year)

Also,

Connie is Javier´s older sister, which makes her Aura´s son, and my sister as well. That makes her two kids, Karol and Jonatan, my niece and nephew! (kind of) Her husband actually lives in the United States right now, Tennessee if I recall correctly, so that´s kind of interesting.

It really cracks me up when they call Jonatan gordo or gordito. I just always imagine in my head them calling him fatty and crack up haha…and he´s not even that chubby either

Yesterday we went to the beach in the late afternoon/evening. I took the pictures of the sunset, which was amazing. I seriously saw heaven. It was crazy, I hope the pictures come out good.

And one last thing

There are these really good fruit things here (I forget their name). They´re red with soft black spikes on them and are about the size of an apricot. You crack them open with your teeth (they aren´t hard) and then inside is this little thing that tastes like a grape and feels like boba in you mouth, but bigger and with a seed in the middle. You all are sooo missing out!!

I tried uploading paint drawing of one but it didn´t work…

Peace

ps. If anyone has any questions about what it´s like here, go ahead and ask. I always forget to write stuff, and maybe some questions will jog my memory…

oh yea, there are no ponchos here. or toads. If you wore a poncho here you would die in about 6.8 seconds

Just a little update

September 1, 2006

I just thought I´d share some stuff that´s happened…

Well today (1 de Septiembre) is Honduras´ independence day. When I got to school, everyone gathered in their big assembly room thing (not big enough for everyone) and there was a little assembly deal. It was funny when they sang the national anthem…it was the weakest singing I´ve ever heard. But yea, then we just hung out and played soccer for most of the school day. Oh and I brought my camera and took pictures of the school and stuff. One roll got ruined about 16 pictures through though, because someone accidentaly opened the back of the camera…but that´s fine I´ll take more pictures tomorrow.

So I was talking to our little cleaner/helper girl (I STILL don´t know her name…I´m too afraid to ask) about english and stuff. It was funny because when I told her that in english the adjective and noun are switched she was like ¨WHAAA!¨ Yea, I thought it was kind of funny…

Oh and the water was out most of yesterday and this morning. I had to ride a bike over to a friend´s house to shower. I actually would have gone without a shower but Aura (the mom) forced me to

Oh I forgot to say before that I severely overpacked. They do laundry every freaking day! I could have seriously brought 3 shirts, 1 pair of pants, and my shorts. Every evening there´s a stack of clean clothes waiting for me. heh, well at least I won´t be constantly getting my good shirts sweaty.

One last thing, the other day I went with Alberto and Jonatan and their friend to the beach and we were jumping off the pier and swimming in the water and stuff. It was Jonatan´s first time jumping off the pier so that was cool. At first he was really scared but once he did it once, he wouldn´t stop. (Don´t worry mom the pier´s like 5 ft. from the water)

So yea,
